Sleeping at 11,503ft gets interesting when the moon is full-ish. I woke up at 1am thinking the sun was out, and mostly tossed and turned until it actually was.
San Gorgonio peak is the highest in Southern California. Permits are required to hike/camp here, and they need to be made a few months in advance. Many hikers use this as the ultimate 'training hike' for Mt Whitney ... having done both, I can 100% agree.
We crossed paths with Ranger Dan about 3 miles from the summit. He advised us to look east toward Palm Springs at sunset, and watch for the shadow of Gorgonio to cast out like a giant pyramid. He was right, and the view did not disappoint!
